Here it is the rarest of the rare SOIA merch. There were five total made for the band and Toby Morse while he was the roadie. I personally bought it from Toby back in 97. I wore it maybe a couple of times, it still looks basically brand new. It says its a Large long. It breaks my heart to put this up for sale but I got to do what I got to do, I can almost guarantee there will never be another one up for sale. My price might be high for alot of people but it is what it is.

Now, whether or not this is cooler than the Slapshot varsity jacket probably depends on how much accoutrement you like on your jacket, and whether or not you like a collared varsity (and possibly what city you’re from, heh). But which ever way you swing, we’re still talking degrees of super cool. I think we can all agree on that.

And here’s a question for Toby. What’s up with the “49″ on the sleeve? Thanks.

The X on the front of his is a little plain, but I think I like it that way. Makes it stand out from all the varsity font X’s.

Not too sure who’s going to be in the market for a fan made jacket for a band they weren’t in, but hey, more power to the seller for the creativity, and I’m sure Clevo appreciates the French TYF love (he had a mustache once, so I figure he’s down with the French). Those letters look nice and fluffy too.

Pros:
There is a company that recognizes the straight edge market
This company is providing slightly less expensive jackets than a one off
This company recognizes the demographic because so many people must have been buying straight edge varsity jackets
You can get the jacket in any size or color you want

Cons:
Some company is mass marketing varsity jackets
Individual touches and design are out the window for a cookie cutter (albeit GREAT) jacket
Some company is trying to cash in on straight edge

So yeah, I’m torn.

The beauty of the this auction is that x614x has already down all the hard work for you. He put a big old X on the front and added sewn (not embroidered) letters on the back. A big old Straight Edge. The black and white colorway (not the weirdo Euro spelling, you’ll notice. What up, Marcus?) is a classic. You can’t beat it. Grab one of these and reenact all those classic youth crew photos with this one. GREAT look.

ps. Who is this x614x character? I’m guessing he was at one point a Boston area edgemin, judging from the other auctions.

Here’s what you do. Look up vintage varsity jackets on ebay. The jackets last a lifetime so even buying a used one would be ok. Gives it character too. There are a few things you are looking for.

1. NO embroidered backs. Get out of here with embroidered backs. It’s all about chenille lettering. Plus, removing embroidery sucks and forever changes the jacket. You can’t even cover those spots. So no embroidery on the back.

2. That’s it. No embroidery. Almost everything else can be covered up or dealt with.

Take this jacket for example. No embroidery ANYWHERE, and just a giant “W” on the front. That “W” can easily be removed and replaced with an “X.” Or maybe you are a big War Hungry fan. Or With Honor. Cheap pick up.

This is the one with Moshua’s name all over it. Check that back batch! Lettering can be removed easily and covered with something appropriate. Chest embroidery can go, same with the sleeve patch. Easy. And for $50? No brainer.

Perhaps your pockets are a little deeper. May I suggest this unconventional jacket? This is for those USHC Pride dudes. Top notch.

1. The embroidered name. Is that a name or a band or what? It’s hard to read and probably only meaningful to the original owner. Get that thread ripper out and go to town.
2. The X. Is that yellow with a green border? Do not understand. Do not get.
3. Straight Edge. It’s all about the chenille letters. This one appears to have been stitched. Stitched? Bummer. You can see the hop from letter to letter. And why the black and white scheme instead of yellow/green? Dunno.

One thing I do know, straight edge pride.

Yes, I know 99% of them are NOT vegan. But that doesn’t stop me from appreciating their styling.

This one … No idea. I can’t tell shit about it. I think it’s black (so says the detailed description). I think there is an “X” on the front. And according to the description, “Straight Edge printed on the back.” I’m not sure how you print words on a jacket, minus screen printing. I highly doubt someone screen printed on a varsity jacket.

Based on this pic and the description, despite being new, that opening bid price is a dream. A beautiful dream but a dream.

Also, it’s being sold by a good dude. When this fellow lived in the UK, I traded A LOT of records to him. He would go to local sneaker spots and grab me kicks. I would then send him vinyl.

Fun fact: in the UK (And maybe all of Europe), they have to specify what material the sneakers are made of. So lots of sneakers I never would have assumed were man made were IN FACT man made (away gun sb dunks for one). I love that.
