The Lockin Out Showcase.

If you’re familiar with the LOC thread on the B9board, you know that brooklynrussellxxx is a LOC fan. So I’m sure it’s paining him to auction off the tee from the Lockin Out Showcase, even if it’s to help him pay for his zine…

I believe the story behind the shirt is it was made specifically available for the Lockin Out Showcase at the Cambridge Elks in Boston. I was excited for the gig and planned on going but bumming a ride was difficult. I especially remember listening to a lot of Righteous Jams around this time. Never a bad thing. The lineup was sweet; If I recall it was The Wrong Side, RZL DZL, Rampage, Step Forward and a few others. Maybe Waste Management, too? Good stuff.

Close. No Waste Management tho…

I don’t remember a whole lot because it was so long ago, and whatever original review I did was lost to the sands of internet time ages ago, but this was actually a pretty great show. No bad sets were played this day. New Lows opened with Chunks, and Jagger got his lip busted open during the feedback, probably by Garvey. The Dookie approved TWS line up for the show was:

dfj

DFJ…

CC

…CC…

scf

…some kid who screwed us over the year we played United Blood, myself, and of course SCACE~! (I have no good photos of Scace from this show, I am sad to say). Probably the best of the post-Last Supper shows we did, probably because we hadn’t beaten the dead horse into glue yet. Craig Mack was undisputed lord of the pit. Had we thought to play Kill The Man With The Ball during our set, he surely would have won, though Alex from Cold World may have had a chance when he single handedly cleared the pit for War of Words. Since I had moved to NY, I was not in on any of the practices, and so had no idea exactly what we were playing. Day of the show I found out we were intro’ing with Sabbath’s Iron Man and covering Helmet’s Unsung in full. Problem was, with only a couple hours notice, there was pretty much no way I was going to get all the words down. Thankfully, CC and DFJ had heckle mics, and they did their best to engage in a sort of Mind Eraser duet on the gaps. Even so, the majority of Unsung did in fact go unsung. I also did what AJ from Stop and Think described as “a big, dramatic X’ing up” during When The Ink Lives Your Fist, after which I chucked the marker at the back of the room, where apparently it hit a girl in the face. Whoops.

The indisputable highlight of the set, and arguably the highlight of the entire show, was Dookie “calling in” from California to heckle me mid set. “Guys, break a leg. No, seriously guys, break Morgado’s leg.” I was as unaware of this gag as I was of the Helmet cover, and it cracked me right up. A prank well played, and a show well gigged.

…cuz I’m Pretty Sure She’s A LOC Fan.

Disclaimer: This post would work so much better if I could find the original “…cuz I’m pretty sure she’s a LOC fan” picture.

I wonder if these LOC booty shorts are the same pair that Casali snuck away from his wife and put up for grabs(EDIT: No they are not). last April. Sure looks that way to me. I was married once myself, and I too made sure to get my wife a pair during the merch melee at Posi Numbers, and hers were seldom worn as well. Perhaps booty shorts are a better gift for your girlfriend then your wife. I wish I had thought to grab them back when we divorced… guess that’s my bad. Anyways, I hope this doesn’t mean that aqua_lamb isn’t a LOC fan anymore…

I’m pretty sure she’s a Marc Jacobs fan tho…

edit: Thanks Age.

The LOC

I had a chance to chat Greg Mental up at the Triple B Records gig. Great gig. Good dude. We were talking about his record label, Lockin Out Records. I was asking him about that Rampage shirt with a different LOC logo to it. He informed me that a few bands actually had different LOC logos. I didn’t know. Or I didn’t recall. Here’s the break down. Rampage had one, Dead End Path and Justice. He may have said Terror, but my mind is mush. I can’t remember crap anymore. But this shirt from xxxbostons has the OG LOC log. 2004, stylee, yo.

Two Tickets To The Gun Show

Tank tops may be the latest rage, but sleeveless tees will NEVER go out of style. I’m curious if burningfight55 followed the LOC guidelines when he created this sleeveless tee?

Fun fact: Clevo was professionally trained in the operation of a flame thrower and tank (I’d guess MIA2) driving (or turret shooting, I forget). Now that’s a gun show!

And if you prefer sleeves, this is just a start. Right Brigade. So fucking awesome.

Mental Crew!

However many years ago, Jaybil cooked up a(nother) classic design for Mental. He’s a dope dude with a good eye for design. We like having him around here. Keep your eyes peeled for some of his hard work in the near term.

He drew up some Nike Dunk Highs and added a simple, youth crew fonted phrase, “Mental Crew.” He then printed up some shirts. Green tees with yellow ink (brazil), blue tees with orange ink (knicks). And then a few in even more limited numbers. I’ve seen a white one with red ink, and there are a handful of tie dye camo tees with light blue ink.

But some of the most limited gear pressed were the white hoods with neon ink. Very few of these were made and even fewer made it out past the actual crew. Over the years some have been sold, but most remain close to Boston. But in the last few years, more and more have been surfacing. Something was afoot.

It appears someone, not sure who, but someone started booting them. The differences are subtle at first. The color green is off. That’s hard to see unless you’ve seen a REAL one though. But the big warning signs are some of the letters. Check the “C” and the “R” in crew.

You can see the “C” is fatter in the middle and overall rounder than the above tshirt drawing. Bummer. Those bootleggers didn’t work too hard on this one. I haven’t seen a legit hood on ebay in years.

I wanted to get to the bottom of this. Because I don’t like falsely calling things bootlegs. I fired off an email to JayBil and he quickly responded “boot.”

Turns out the seller is a friend of ttd so I didn’t hesitate to get an email out to him. He heard what I had to say and immediately emailed all bidders AND updated the listing. Honest sellers are awesome! Good dude, for sure. If you like Cold World and Wilkes-Barre bands, DEFINITELY check out his other auctions. Like I said, good dude. Continue reading »

Trying On Tees

Have you ever gone to a merch table, asked the merch seller if you could try something on AND got denied?

Never happened to me.

I’ve also never denied anyone trying something on when I was the merch seller.

This guy bought an AMAZING shirt in the wrong size. Is this the first time it’s happened? Unlikely.Too bad for him. Good for you. If you missed United Blood 2010, here’s your chance to grab this one.

Just make sure you are a size large before dropping cake on it.

You’re On The Wrong Side!

This tshirt was printed for the last Wrong Side show “ever.” Posi #s 2005 in Wilkes-Barre PA.

It came in two flavors. Black with white ink and Black with pink ink. Personally, I prefer the pink ink version. I’m not 100% positive, but I think the pink was more rare, too.

morGODo ended up selling all of these while sitting next to me. He was real stoked on his pre-packaged roast beef slices. He was ready to jam.

But as you may recall, they never got to play.

Of course, this means they have played four or five “last” shows since then.

Good times.
