Holographs And Skateboards.

Couple cool Anthrax rarities popped up this Metal Monday from sellers edroogie and donnie1kim. First off, we have a hologram, of all things, that came with cassette versions of State of Euphoria:

The second item is actually far more infamous. It’s a patch of the Anthrax skateboard logo. You know, the one that got them in trouble with the entire New York scene because they slapped NYHC on it? Yeah, that’s this one.

Simple Nike SB Tees

I know what you are thinking. “How the hell are Nike SB tshirts hardcore affiliated or even related?” Patience ,my dear friend. Much like Morgado’s earlier, super wacky connection, mine has a similar direction.

I’ve found over the last few years that bands have been making super ridiculous looking shirts. True story, and you know this, man. There is only so much ridiculousness I can wear, and my awesome shirts from the 80s and 90s … well, they are from the 80s and 90s. They are getting older and more delicate as the years go by. It’s all good, I don’t have them hermetically sealed and stored in a light sensitive, temperature and humidity controlled environment like some person I know (COUGH .. casali .. COUGH). I obviously still wear them, but every now and then, it’s nice to buy a NEW shirt.

Lately, that shirt of choice is the Nike SB dri-fit tee. These shirts are great. No stupid neon colors, no bizarre bullshit. Just plain logos or NO logo at all. Pocket or v-neck, I can hang. So I’ve picked up a few and they are great go to shirts. I’ve been able to pick up a few from local skate shops (SUPPORT local skate shops!) and a couple from ebay seller shoe_depot. I obviously prefer supporting my local skateshops, but lately, they’ve been selling out of these items with the quickness. Apparently, EVERYONE is enjoying them as much as I am. So I was forced to broaden my scope.

A few weeks back, I noticed a note on the Livewire Records message board from Eric Z of Refuge Skateboard Shop. He runs a great skateshop out in Michigan. Kids seem to love it, and from what I’ve read, so does the neighborhood. He posted about a sale he was running on Nike SB footwear. I jumped on it hoping he might have a few vegan sneaker options. Sadly, he did not. BUT, he did have some of the coveted shirts I was looking for. I hit him up right quick, sent some paypal his way, and then in a few short days, I had some new tees in house. It was awesome.

Here’s where it comes full circle back to hardcore. If you don’t know Eric Z (the Z is for Ziembowicz. Apparently Z is easier to pronounce than Ziembowicz. Who’d have guessed?), he is a hardcore kid like you and me. A diehard skateboarder and he’s run Element Records for nearly 15 years (or is it more? It could be more than that). I believe Element Records started out as a hardcore / skateboard zine. I know I have 2 or 3 issues somewhere in my house. He then started putting out EPs that had some skateboard connection. The Prevent This Tragedy comp is one of my favorites. Can’t go wrong with a Swarm track.

On top of the label, he’s also a small business owner struggling with the current economic situation. Here’s where you get into the mix. If you live in the area, support his shop. If you have an internet connection (duh), order gear from him. If you have a phone, call your order in. Support this dude. He’s been supporting hardcore for decades. It’s time to give back and support him. Go check it out.

Fighting Irish, Madras and American Nightmare

From this auction, we can tell that theclevo is a man of class. Madras bed spread. That’s some West Hamptons style. And the Notre Dame sheets? That’s the mark of a high falutin’ academic. Not sure about the American Nightmare skatedeck on the bed though. Wolfpack Skatedecks and limited to 100. It’s still in the shrink wrap even. That speaks of a charmed pedigree. All and all, this deck is worth getting. Skate it or hang it up. Either way, you’ve got yourself a great conversation piece while you enjoy a fine cognac.

Guns Up, A Soul, Trash Talk … Wait, A Soul?

jamsk8! has balls. No doubt. This person has stepped out of their comfort zone to open up a DIY skate shop. That takes money, patience, passion and BIG BRASS BALLS. In this down turned (but on the way back) economy, it takes balls to follow your dreams. Stepping away from a reliable, but boring paycheck is a hard move. But this dude did it. Following the dream. Support this kid. Support this shop.

I salute this guy. I look forward to the day when I can do the same thing.

Not sure what the soul auction contains, but I may just have to bid on it.

What? No usual Trash Talk logo? I like it. Thinking outside the box.

Skate Or Die, Mongo Style

I’m not sure who exactly headtowall is, but he’s definitely connected. My guess would be a member of The Mongoloids. Why do I guess that? Why, this deck, of course. There were only 5 made, and they were all given to members of the band. Given to the original members of the band as gifts from the company that made them. Sadly, he doesn’t say what company made these. Someone hook me up with this info.

Misfits “Rare” Deck?

Sometimes Misfits fans take it too far. I mean, sure, everything pre 80s is rare. This is certain. Rare and highly collectible aka valuable. But if you ask me, this is another instance of manufactured rarities. Skateboard deck limited to 250. This one is number 215. The seller claims the artwork is by “Aller Jaeyer” but I’m guessing he meant Allen Jaeger. And this deck dropped in 2002. Find out more from the artist. Supposedly only available to the fiend club. But who really knows, right? Is it worth the opening bid of $150 to you? If so, have at it.

And now for something completely different …

Many of you know me as “Mr. Bane” or the guy who has a lot of crappy tees.

But I am more than that, thank you.

I’m also the guy who collects skate shoes from a short lived sneaker company called Savier. They put out some of my favorite skate sneakers, the Trainer or the Tim O’connor. Eventually, Nike bought them up, then shut their doors. But if you peep the trainer, you’ll notice it looks A LOT like the Nike Air Trainer One. Wild.

Anyway, I frequently check ebay for Savier related gear.

These hats would often come up. They started popping up by this seller in 2006. He would drop 10-12 and started his bids at $9.99. A few were snapped up, but others languished. He then brought the opening bids down to $4.99. None really moved. And then he dropped the bottom out and would put up 20 auctions at a time at $0.99 a wack.

No one bought them.

After 4 years of this, the seller had enough. Now you can buy 263 hats for the low starting price of $0.99. That works out to $0.004 per hat. You’re better off buying these and selling them for $1 a pop at a flea market.

LOL.

So, if anyone has any Savier Trainers in sz 12-13, hit me up. We’ll talk.

Hardcore And Skateboarding

Skateboarding and Hardcore/Punk are linked. No doubt. Some of these graphics may cause you to shudder, but some are dope. Check it.

Misfit Fiend “For Life” Deck. Huh? Why does this look like a Dixie Flag to me?

Misfits. At least this graphic is recognizable.

Poison The Well. Does the band skate? Do their fans? Dunno.

Leeway. Born To Expire. Now we’re getting better …

Pushead Limited Deck. Not strictly hardcore, but the imagery is all punk. And you know Pushead is down. And you know this, man.

Tom Knox sticker? Oh hell yeah. Nailed to the X.

There you have it. You take the good, you take the bad, …
