New Found Gorilla.

I have always maintained that if you’re gonna do a rip off shirt, you should be as creative as possible in doing so. Seller xanchorx gives us a good example, courtesy of New Found Glory, of all bands…

I assume this is their bass player’s head on the GB ape’s body. That’s the closest resemblance I can see anyways. Bridge 9 logo on the back, so I assume they sold it one point, but it seems to be unavailable now. This actually isn’t all that surprising a choice; NFG have always worn their love of GB on their sleeve (or at least Chad has anyways; you know he has Start Today on purple right? It was on MTV like a decade ago, you might have seen it mentioned on your local messageboard’s monthly OMG THIS CELEBRITY KNOWS ABOUT HC thread ever since). The only thing I don’t care for is that it means Step Forward can’t make one using Scace.

I’d Still Choose Mike Judge Over You.

Last time we saw one of these New Found Glory Judge rip off tees made by Bridge Nine, I must admit I did in fact poo poo on it. And while I’m still not fond of it, I must admit, last time it did go for a decent price. Nothing crazy, mind you, but decent just the same. So it’s only fair that I give some positive coverage to the next one I saw, which happens to be this one from inmyyouth09.

You can see the numbered sleeve in this one, and I have to admit, it doesn’t look as distracting as I thought it would.

It Was Cooler When Hatebreed Did It.

Nothing against New Found Glory, but they have about as much in common with Judge musically as Integrity does with Green Day. At least Hatebreed’s heavy, plus they did the Schism version. I know Chad’s a Straight Edge hardcore kid, but I would have thought they’d more likely to go with YOT or GB for a rip off design if they wanted to tip their merch design hat in that direction.

As seller pcook60526 points out, this was limited to 100, which makes me wanna know, what’s up with this “limited to 100 shirts” thing? I noticed the other day that B9 has the blue on white version of the classic Underdog NYC tee up for sale, also limited to 100, and it’s 20 bucks! Did I miss the memo about shirts being the new colored vinyl? And do labels try to sell their colored vinyl for a couple bucks more than regular vinyl now? Everything about this post has made me feel old and out of touch…

13 Years and 1 Day

13 years and 1 day ago, New Found Glory played their first show. Where were you? I was in Maine. I would end up seeing Snapcase on the 14th of June at Zootz. Great gig.

Blackstone Hardcore!!

One time a crew of dudes was coming back from Michigan Fest. This crew of dudes cut through Canada in order to shave some time off their trip.

Going through the border, the guard asked where they were from. My friend Blair, and if you knew Blair, you would know how ridiculous this is, says, “Blackstone.”

That was it. No Massachusetts, not even The US.

Blackstone.

Like Blackstone is some grand center of commerce or industry known internationally.

God bless Blair.

This seller is from Blackstone. Sadly, I would doubt it is Blair. Blair wasn’t a small shirt guy. He probably has never heard of The Mongoloids or New Found Glory (what about that tee? Wowza, better than Paul Frank head??) either.

B9 Cleaning the Closet Again

Just a few hours left. B9 brought the heavy weights out.

Here’s one of my faves.

The first American Nightmare EP. This is a friends only press. Rumor has it, B9 has a spreadsheet somewhere that lists what number was given to which person. I like the thought of that. Sort of like a Chung King list. In fact, most of the sleeves were personalized with a name.

New Found Glory’s newest album. Friends press, out of 100. That’s you fighting three hundred thousand girls. Good luck.

And another gem. The Have Heart You Can’t Go Home Again Test Press. #11 out of 25. Great little item here.

TTD loves B9. Go hook Chris and his team up.

WTF? New Found Glory – Judge Schism Tee

I can enjoy New Found Glory but this tee just seems sacrilegious.

Call me a fuddy-duddy, call me a geezer, but Judge seems like one of those bands that you just should not eff with visually.

Yes, I realize that Judge got the crossed hammers from another band. I don’t care about that other band. Not even a little. Judge is Judge. Judge is better than that other band.

One time I saw New Found Glory at the Palladium in Worcester, MA. I was up in the side wings in the VIP section (oh yeah, that’s right, VIP stylee!) with a couple of other kids. For the entire gig, these two teens sucked face. It wasn’t kissing, it wasn’t frenching, it was seriously sucking face. At one point, Jordan pointed them out, and the whole crowd cheered. They got sufficiently embarrassed and stopped grossing the rest of us out. Good times.

Seller Spotlight – TomZ

Today we hit up seller TomZ (courtesy of hows_your_edge) to find out what the hub bub is all about.

1. How did you get started in the punk/ hardcore scene?

In 1994, my stepbrother took me to my first hardcore show which was a few local bands playing at the Living Room in Providence, RI. At that point I had only gone to metal concerts, lolopalooza, and other “grunge” shows so this was a whole new thing for me. The next week I saw a flyer for Sheer Terror, Life of Agony, Lockdown and Smudge at Club Babyhead (r.i.p.) and took it upon myself to go. Holy John Christ…it was one of the scariest things I have ever seen and between dodging all the huge beasts that were destroying the place and getting my first black eye I was hooked. Any show that was at Babyhead or the Living Room I went to, any flyer I saw for a hardcore show in the tri state area I would take the train to. It was love at first sight.

2. How did you amass all these amazing tees?

I always would buy shirts and any other merch of bands that I saw, starting at my first show (damn I still wish I had that Times Expired shirt) and running up until the last show I went to (Edge Day 10/17/09). But what really got my t shirt collection going was when I started being a roadie for bands and working at Stillborn Recs in 2002. All the bands I toured with, I got a shirt from. All the bands that played on the shows I got a shirt from. All the bands on the label the band I was out with was on, I got a shirt from. When I sold the bulk of my shirt collection in 2005 I had over 450 shirts, some of which I had never worn.

3. What’s the strongest memory attached to one of these shirts (like a great show, or a funny merch table discussion)?

I’d say its the Earth Crisis basketball jersey. I bought it at the old Lupos in Providence. The show was Downset, ExC, VOD and StillSuit, (we didnt have Bane on our show like you guys in MA did) with no barrier! It was to this day one of the best shows I ever went to. I rolled up with a group of friends and from first band to last the place was insane…3 mosh pits, non stop stage dives and some of the biggest pile-ons this side of a Converge show at the Space! I bought the jersey at the end of the show and I wore it constantly because seriously…its an Earth Crisis basketball jersey!! I liked it so much I didn’t mind when my friend bought me the same one a few months later for my birthday at a ExC show in CT.

Word! And you know we LOVE basketball jerseys.
