Shai Hulud

My parents used to live in Florida.

We’d hit up the Jacksonville beaches, look for sharks’ teeth, fly kites and ride around in the back of the Subaru Brat. Big fan.

I haven’t really been back for very much. Once for a nerdy conference in Hollywood, FL (Spring Framework, anyone?), and once to Key West for a few hours. Pretty chill.

Never saw Shai Halud. But I’d hang on a beach with them. Wish I was at the beach now.

Shai Hulud Basketball Jersey

It’s weird, I was never SUPER huge on Shai Hulud.

I remember listening to that one 12″ a lot freshmen year, courtesy of Cushman. Dude played it a lot.

It definitely doesn’t explain why his roommate once commented about all the “nazi rock,” though.

Yeah, no kidding, “nazi rock.” This was the dude who exclusively listened to Oasis and wore a Russian (USSR) hockey jersey while riding rollerblades. Mike’s roommate was a total douche. He had one of those bike locks securing his computer to his desk because he was worried Mike would “steal it,” I suppose. Unlikely. Fuck, I hate how much that dude LOVED Oasis. Also, keep in mind, this was late 97, early 98. That means Oasis only had THREE albums out. That dude only had a 3 cd rotation. It was disgusting.

Shai Hulud is not affiliated with Nazis in ANY fashion. Just making sure no one gets it twisted.

Someone should buy this basketball jersey and challenge Mike’s old roommate to a basketball game on rollerblades. Kick his ass, Sea Bass!

Nazi Punks, Fuck Off.

Morning Again

Remember Immigrant Sun Records?

Probably not.

Unless you are pretty well versed on mid 90s Northern NY vegan mosh metal, you probably missed this whole scene (despite the fact that Morning Again was from Florida). Maybe not a terrible thing. But certainly a slice of the scene worth noting. It was AFTER Earth Crisis’s big heyday. Not coat tail riding, but certainly after the circus had left town.

Here’s a fun fact, Immigrant Sun Records was still a record label in 2009. Holy shit, who knew? Sadly, the site currently has very little information on it, check it out. I checked the 2009 lineup and cannot tell you a single thing about any of those bands. I take that back. Slingshot Dakota is a chill indie group with a female vocalist. I can dig that band. Mind you, NOTHING like Morning Again.

Seller claims the shirt has coffee stains. I’m pretty sure Morning Again would claim coffee is NOT straight edge. Sadly, I can’t verify that.

Shai Hulud – Bridge 9 Mosh

A few weeks back I was hanging out with Elizabeth Wrenn.

She was originally from Florida so you know she LOVES Jesus, and all christian straight edge hardcore bands (or not).

Anyway, I was commenting that she probably loved to mosh to Shai Hulud back in the day. Not that they are Christian Straight Edge at all, mind you.

She quickly remarked that she was OLD and moshed for Bloodlet instead.

Please picture E Wrenn moshing now. Impossible to imagine.

How the hell are you going to sell a shirt when it’s folded up like that? Is that a lower hem print, a chest print, a back print? Who knows.
