Italy: Land Of The Bootleg

Italy is the unsung king of bootlegging (well Germany in the 90s was pretty close). It just seems like every time we see a classic tee being sold from Italy, it always ends up being a boot. Now some sellers specify in the description that its a boot and I’m fine with that as long as the seller is up front. Now hard-to-forget is selling a bunch of classic tees that are all “New without tags”. No mention of them being bootlegs but we can just assume they are. Again, if you’re going to sell bootlegs, just say they are. On the plus side, they aren’t that expensive and the quality looks pretty good so if you’ve been looking for a classic Turning Point or Warzone tee but can’t afford to shell out the money, then there is an alternative.

Another Chain Boot, With YOT (And Sleeveprints).

Seller animal-chin, he of the nice looking Chain of Strength bootleg that’s currently going for $66(!), has another pair of high quality boots up, and I gotta say, while I don’t know about paying $66 or higher for them, they are a nice looking pair. Or maybe I’m just a sucker for the old Wishingwell and StepForward sleeve prints.

Chain Of Strength bootlegs for all…

…well at least three of you. There is a nice selection of Chain Of Strength bootlegs for sale on eBay at the moment. First one up is a replica of the oh so elusive “Drug Free Youth” sleeve print shirt. I forget the back story on this design, but I believe it was a Chain/Unit Pride/Step Forward smash up. No clue how many original ones exist/existed. Maybe this one is original, who knows. Good looking shirt though.

Ahhh my personal favorite. The classic Navy Chain Of Strength shirt. It’s really getting hard to find an original one of these floating around. If you have one, let me know. I need a double. It’s one of my favorite shirts.

Last but not least is a standard white and green Chain shirt. You know the classic style of this one will never get old. Go bleach your hair then get a bid in.

Just So We’re All Clear…

…all of xfratellanzax’s shirts are bootlegs. That’s his deal; he’s an Italian guy who sells boots. Pretty decent ones, in fact. But it makes me nervous when I see his auctions getting more than one bid…

Believe me, none of these really needed to go beyond the one bid, because he’ll always have one up. Go look at his feedback, it’s the same shirts over and over again, and some of them have even cleared the 30 dollar mark. So look. If you aren’t the first one to get in your 9.99 bid, the odds are super in your favor that if you wait a month, you’ll have another chance. Why throw money away when you don’t have to?

The bootleg discussion

I just wanted to take a moment and clarify something that has recently come up. The term bootleg is used around here quite a bit, and I wanted to elaborate on it.

As far as I am concerned with MY blog posts(I think Murphy and JayBil agree but I won’t speak for them), a bootleg shirt does not just refer to a crust punk pumping out Youth of Today 4 sided shirts in his basement in Chile. As far as I am concerned, even if the shirt is “licensed” by the band years later, that does not make it official. It’s remake. A bootleg.
