Summer Tour 1998

1998 was a great year for hardcore. Seriously. It was a great year personally for me, no doubt, but 98 was beyond compare for the core. I know it sounds ridiculous when you compare it to 86 or 88, but roll with me on this one. The Youth Crew Revival was in it’s up swing. Floorpunch was head walking all over Jersey. In My Eyes, Ten Yard Fight, Fastbreak and Bane were diving off of balconies all over the US but especially Boston. It was a wonderful year. And Worcester gigs were the hot shit. The Space (III) was the place to be on the weekend, all 3 days. There was always a great event going on. This jacket likely came from the same event I mentioned in my Harvest post. This show was bananas.

August 16 1998 @The Space Worcester Mass: Saves The Day, Barrit, Harvest, The Sheist, Bane

Great jacket. I like that the original owner’s girlfriend thought he looked “cute” in it. That’s a keeping not selling point, I’d say.

I couldn’t find any old Saves The Day tshirts to share, but here’s a pretty old one. Decent BIN price too…

And for you Barrit heads … Steve Neale RIP

Only The No Fun Remain

When Bane recorded Give Blood, we packed a bunch of dudes into a 15 passenger van and drove down to DC. At the time, I was just barely 25 so it was touch and go on whether I could rent it or not. We finally secured the vehicle, rounded everyone in Worcester up, and made the drive.

Lets see if I can remember everyone who made the trip (if I forgot anyone, let me know).

People I forgot. Whoops.

Great ride. I drove the whole way as the rental place wouldn’t have it any other way. Down and back. We broke out late at night and didn’t arrive in DC until the very morning. It was still too early for backup vocals so we hit the local indoor pool.

Not everyone brought shorts. In fact, Lou only had white boxes. Now if you don’t know Lou (from Barrit and The Swarm and …), he’s really, really, really brown. Wet white boxers + brown dude = many unhappy parents. He was asked politely by the pool staff to leave.

Not everyone was down for swimming and in van football. We called them “No Fun.” Cough … Tre … Cough. Lots of shenanigans went down in that van. Lots.

So we rolled back to the studio and were getting ready for backups. Of course, lots of horse play going on in the booth. LOTS.

At one point, Brian Mcternan (I bet you were wondering how’d I work Battery into this, weren’t you?) had to scold us a few times. He even singled Lou out for being too rambunctious.

“Cut it out, dude.”

“Whatever, Brian McDickhead.”

“You know I can hear you, right?”

LOL. These are the times we’ll remember!
